Oasis Iris Expander gets CE mark.

Kestrel are delighted to announce that the Oasis Iris Expander has received CE mark and is now available in the UK market.

The Oasis Iris Expander, a 7.0 mm diameter polypropylene ring expands and maintains access and visibility throughout the surgical procedure. The disposable device is indicated in cases where Miosis and Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome is present.

Each Oasis Iris Expander is easy to insert and remove and gentle to fragile iris tissue.

The Oasis Iris Expander is packaged sterile with its own easily loaded disposable injector, 5 expanders per box.

In parntership Oasis Medical and Rhein Medical have specifically designed a double ended hook to ease the manipulation of the ring in the eye and to aid easy removal.

The instrument is a double-ended hook.  One end is a modified Lester-type hook that is the ideal shape, diameter and length for engaging and placing the corner pockets of the Iris Expander.  It includes a slight extension that keeps the “elbow” of the hook from getting lodged in the positioning hole.  This extension allows this end of the instrument to be used as a push-pull manipulator to help assure each pocket is fully engaged in the pupil margin.

The other end is a modified collar button hook.  This hook can be used to efficiently and safely remove the Iris Expander.  Notice that the hook is on the top side of the instrument instead of the bottom as most angled hooks are designed.  Using this hook, the surgeon simply pushes at the center of the proximal cross-bar toward the center of the pupil.  This simultaneously displaces both proximal corners at the same time.  Then just a slight lift to allow the corners to clear the pupil margin and release it toward the incision.  Finally, simply place the pull portion of the hook underneath the proximal cross-bar (this is the reason the hook is facing up) and pull the Expander out through the incision.  This is a simple, one instrument, two step technique that is quick, safe and elegant.
